Belvia I. Smith and David W. Smith Memorial Business School Scholarship

Belvia Irene Scott (February 27, 1913 – March 4, 1998) was born in Nixon, Tennessee and David Wilson Smith (December 9, 1908 – February 11, 1968) was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Neither went past the 4th grade. Belvia’s parents were both deceased by the time she was 14. Belvia and David each moved to St. Louis where they dated and married. David worked 30 years on the production line for Fisher Body, a division of General Motors. Belvia held jobs outside of the home but eventually became a full-time homemaker for her family. With rural, humble beginnings and little education, Belvia and David raised three sons and a daughter, instilling in them virtues such as honesty, appreciation, hard work, generosity, and compassion. This scholarship is established to honor Belvia and David Smith for all they did for their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.
